Location
The Kangal Psoriasis Treatment and Fishy Therapy Center, located in a rural green valley, is 98 km from Sivas and 13 km from the centre of the town of Kangal. The spring is unique because psoriasis, an illness which has no cure in modern medicine, is healed in thermal water rich in minerals. There is a gram of selenium per liter of water that has a temperature of 37 Degrees Celsius (98.6). It is miraculous in itself that these ‘Dr. Fish’, as they are known, are capable of living in water of such high temperature. Due to its location high above sea level, additional physical and psychological benefits are experienced from receiving treatment with ultraviolet rays. History
There is no psoriasis treatment comparable worldwide that offers all the benefits of the Kangal Spa. It was only a reed-bed until 1917, at which time it attracted the attention of the public by chance when a shepherd hurt his foot only to see it healed by the water of the spring. Simple buildings were later constructed in the 1950’s and the springs were taken over by the local administration of Sivas in the 1060’s; it was at this time that several lodging facilities were built. In later years the public used the area as a summer resort but it was not until a journalist interviewed a psoriasis patient on his treatment at the spring that the world began to take notice.

The hotel built separate pools for men and women along with two indoor treatment pools. There are 16 private baths available in Winter that are centrally heated by a pipe running from the hotel to the pool. The Kangal Thermal hotel is equipped with a total of 147 rooms, of which there are 144 standard rooms and 3 suites.

The Kangal Fish Spring is home to 2 varieties of toothless fish that miraculously live in its 37 degree Celsius water (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit). These fish, that never grow larger than 10 cm (4 inches), cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Scientifically, a 21-day treatment regimen is highly recommended for optimal treatment results.

The Conclusion Manifesto of the Psoriasis Research Panel at the Kangal Fishy Spa in Turkey, (20. 06. 2001) reads as follows:
Psoriasis is a pretty common and chronic skin disease. Together with numerous studies regarding the formation of the diseases there are various treatment applications. However, we should keep in mind that since there is no cure, the disease may repeat itself. In its repetition stage, the psychological aspect of the patient is of great importance. For a long time, spa and climatic treatments have been the ongoing treatment methods for various diseases, and it is in this sense that the fishy spa is interesting. With its climate, fish and water, which are used by the patients suffering from psoriasis, some positive results have been achieved through natural ultraviolet effects of selenium in the water at high altitudes, and the cleaning of the scum by the fish.
It is with this aspect and treatment factor, that the spa is a candidate for becoming an internationally accepted and significant center for health care tourism.

Prof. Dr. Sedat Ozcelik: I have been observing and dealing with this spring for about 20 years. I can safely say that the patients who have come to the spring were clinically cured in 1 or 3 weeks. The group therapy, the effect of natural ultraviolet radiation, the Jacuzzi effect of the pools, the effect of selenium, the short period of (4-8) decapitate of scams by the fish, and the Zinc effect all have an important role in healing of psoriasis. Again, according to my observations, I have seen that the healing process of this treatment has been observed to last for as long as a two-year period.
